We fished Pontoosuc for the first time
in June 2008 because my son Jon wanted to find some bigger Pike. We
found plently of pike and even a couple of good sized ones on the
center Cheshire lake but no big ones. On the second trip to this lake
Jon got a decent sized Pike. Bigger than ones on Center Cheshire. Well
on the third trip to Pontousic my son bagged two fish and the first one
was unquestonably a Tiger Musky. This tiger was not huge but it was up
there with his largest Pike. Looks about 28 inches, Nice pictures but
in all the excitement Jon forgot to look at the scale. Not being
experts at these fish it is hard to tell what they like but this one
was caught on 12lb test line with a leader and a 3 or 4 inch deep
diving plug.
This lake is to big for my confort and has a fair amount of water sking which is not fun. We also found Bass Contests to be a bit of a problem. Not that there are too many boats but that the tend to have boats that can not get out and plane, as a result the drag the whole lake behind them. Dangerous to 12 foot long boats. I guess these guys have never been on a smaller boat because none of them bothered with even the smallest amount of kindness for the little guy.
So use caution on this lake and bring life jackets!
